Hidden Valley Ski Trip

On Friday, Papa & I took the kids to Hidden Valley Ski Resort out in the Cypress Hills.

It was a beautiful day, we had at least 5 cms of fresh powder to start the day.

The temperature hovered around -11 all day. When we first got there it was very foggy but it didn't take long for the sun to burn it off.

And surprisingly enough it wasn't all that busy!

Blair has been bugging us all winter to go; next year we're getting him his own board and he's going every weekend!

Kirby went with school last month and tried snowboarding, she absolutely loved it.

She actually did pretty good, not as fast as her brother but than again he is a boy!

Papa came along again this year, he does better than me!!!

The end of a fun day!

We met up with Carolyn's sister Sherry, Dean & the boys.

On the way home we seen a heard of about 50 elk basking in the afternoon sun on the west slope of the hills. When driving out in the morning we seen some moose and several large herds of mule deer.

Hanging with the kids!

The kids had the past week off school so I took the week off and stayed home with them while Carolyn worked.

Family Day trip to the Crowsnest Pass

Yesterday we took a Family Day trip to Pincher Creek, the kids haven't been there yet so we wanted to show them around their new town. We checked out dad's office, the church, the school and of course dad's crib!

It was such a nice day we decided to keep going west.

Blair standing on a boulder at Frank Slide.

Kirby has been wanting to see Frank Slide, you can't tell by her face, because she was sick, but she was excited.

Who's got more teeth?

A model of the Crowsnest Pass, Blair is lighting up Blairmore!

Mommy & Kirby playing an inter-active game with Frank Slide out the window.

Erinn playing a farming game; what it has to do with Frank Slide, I have no idea!?!?

The kids at the view point.

The place was packed, since it was Family Day there was free admission.

A panoramic view of Turtle mountain and Frank Slide.

The kids checking out Lundbreck Falls.

Accuracy!

First off; I'm not a gun nut! Now, what I'm realizing about this job is that you can never have enough guns, but, they're no good if their not sighted in properly!

This is my rifle... and my shotgun!

Sighting in my brand new Pneu-Dart tranquilizer gun.

Trying out the Pneu-Dart CO2 pistol.

My favourite, the Arwen 37mm 'thumper-gun'!

Ok! Enough about guns, back to some scenery shots! I love the mountains!

South District Patrol

Yesterday Perry was back to work after his week in Mexico, we went on a patrol of the south part of our district around Waterton Reservoir into Cardston District than back to the front ranges.

Here we are on the northern boundary of Waterton National Park. Notice how clean my truck is? It doesn't stay that way for long!

Looking south into Waterton National Park from the boundary fence, that's the buffalo paddock in the foreground.

Yarrow basin.

Good thing there isn't much for snow, this is avalanche country!

Following Yarrow Creek into the mountains.

Spionkop Ridge.

A herd of bison on the hilltop.

A friendly mule along the roadway.

Another friend who came to visit, there was 4 of them and they licked the side of my truck clean!

South Drywood Creek looking down the valley towards Bovin Lake.

See those trails along the hillside at the base of the mountain? Those are traditional bighorn sheep trails that are probably 1,000's of years old!

Just Cruz'n

This past week I've been cruising around the district getting to know the back roads, the boss is gone on holidays.

This is just southwest of Pincher Creek, there are lots of these rocky ridges.

No shortage of deer in this part of the country, here's a herd of mule-deer.

Here's a herd of white-tailed deer.

Looking out across the prairie at a field full of wind generators with the Livingstone Range in the background.

Heading into the Crownsnest Pass on Highway #3; that's Turtle Mountain with the clouds hovering on top.

The box of my truck full with a road-killed cow elk.

This is a rough-legged hawk with a broken wing that someone brought in.
