Lately it has been very peaceful out here in the evening, my timing has been excellent, when I return from work the sun is about to set and the prairie is painted with an orange/brown glow. The wind disappears to nothing and the silence is unbelievable! As darkness draws near a herd of deer ventures into the backyard, they wander slowly in followed by a large doe with a crippled leg, as they get comfortable a four-point buck runs into site and scatters the herd over the back fence. The crippled doe is now the only one left, feeding undisturbed on the sparse grass that struggles to survive in the cool fall temperatures. The kids stand at the back window and watch the deer like they were watching a movie on TV. Eventually the darkness envelopes the scene and the kids loose interest and return to their books and school work, I sit for a while longer enjoying the serenity of it all, silently thanking God for my meager existence and the opportunity for my kids and I to enjoy country living!
My favorite view; across the river valley looking to the southeast!
Our new sign post off the front drive.
Looking to the north towards the city. The last couple of nights we've had 7-9 white-tailed deer hanging out back here eating the grass on our mound.
